Preschool Storytime (ages 3-5)

Monday's Preschool Storytime includes reading interactive picture books followed by a fun and simple craft with lots of singing and silliness in between! This storytime is designed specifically for 3-5 year olds with a focus on building early literacy skills as well as fine motor skills with craft activities such as tearing, coloring, cutting, drawing, gluing, and painting.

2nd & 3rd Grade Book Group | Big Foot and Little Foot (Book 1)

At the Academy for Curious Squidges, Hugo learns all manner of Sneaking—after all, the most important part of being a Sasquatch is staying hidden from humans. But Hugo dreams of roaming free in the Big Wide World rather than staying cooped up in caves.

When he has an unexpected run-in with a young human boy, Hugo seizes the opportunity for a grand adventure.

The two soon team up to search high and low for mythical beasts, like Ogopogos and Snoot-Nosed Gints. Through discovering these new creatures, together, Big Foot and Little Foot explore the ins and outs of each other’s very different worlds but learn that, deep down, maybe they’re not so different after all.

This month, our 2nd & 3rd grade book group is reading Big Foot and Little Foot (Book #1) by Ellen Potter.

Join us for this fun in-person book club. We will discuss the book and play games or do crafts. No registration necessary. We hope to see you there!

Music & Movement with Ms. Rebecca | ages 4 and under

Join Miss Rebecca for a class filled with music and movement. Rebecca is a musician who has a background in theater, music and improv. She is bringing her multiple talents to our library. Sing along to original songs and family favorites. This is a great program for infants, toddlers and preschoolers. Gentle reminder: food is not permitted at Music & Movement.

Read-to-a-Dog | Finn (and his partner Aileen) are our listeners today | Ages 5+

Our Read-to-a-Dog Program provides a supportive environment to practice reading. Reading to trained therapy dogs helps develop literacy skills and builds confidence and self-esteem. Our canine friends are all wonderful patient listeners who are looking forward to hearing your read!

Our listening teams are at the library on Saturday mornings from 10:30 to 11:30 in a quiet corner of the Children’s Department.

To register, please call the Children’s Department at 781-741-1405. Each reading session is 15 minutes.

Join us for a S.T.E.M.-filled afternoon of robotics and coding with Dash robots. Participants will help Dash solve a maze and play soccer and shoot some baskets with Dash robots!

Learn-to-Play Chess Club | Ages 6-10

Local high school students are offering a beginner’s learn-to-play chess club at the Hingham Library! The chess club will meet one Saturday per month and will teach the basics of chess. Players will learn the names of pieces and how they move, the rules of the game, and what they need to do to win. They will have an opportunity to play against the club leader(s) and other club members. This is a fun, interactive way to learn the basics of chess. Players do not need to bring any equipment. Registration is required.

"Odder" is a middle-grade verse novel by Newbery Medalist, Katherine Applegate, focusing on a fearless, curious sea otter in Monterey Bay, CA. Pokémon Club | Ages 6-11

Do you love Pokémon? Pokémon fans ages 6-11 are invited to our new monthly Pokémon Club! Come share your collection, face off against other trainers in battles, and enjoy themed activities. If you don’t have cards, you can borrow one of the Library’s decks.
