  3. Memoir Writing

    April 24, 2019, 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM @ Fearing/Trustees Conference Room

Class participants will write pieces on a variety of subjects--childhood memories, stories about family members and friends, trips they've taken, historical events important in their lives, changes in culture they've observed over the years, every day activities and other true-life topics. Class will be led by Frank Mellen who has been teaching memoir writing at the Hingham Senior Center for more than five years and has produced three anthologies of writers' favorite contributions, all of which are part of the library collection and available for circulation. Most writing is completed outside of class. Members share and discuss their stories and encourage others. If you are interested in writing or have already begun doing so, we would love to have you join the group. The class will meet twice per month, April 10 & 24, May 15 & 22, and June 5 & 19. Registration required.

  2. Nature, Art, and Discovery Program: Baby Birds and Their Nests

    April 24, 2019, 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM @ Activity Room

Participants will observe many different types of real bird’s nests from the Audubon collection. This will allow them to feel and learn about the natural materials that birds use to make nests.

After listening to a story about a mother robin caring for her nest and observing the real nests, each child-caregiver pair will then make their own nest out of natural material. Once the nest is made, each child will use air dried clay to sculpt several eggs and one parent bird to place in their nest. Each group will get to keep their nest and once the clay dries, they will be able to paint the eggs and birds.

Suitable for children ages 3 to 5. This program requires registration. Please register online or by calling 781-741-1405 ext. 1403.
Program made possible Mass Audubon's Museum of American Bird Art and funded by the Hingham Cultural Council and the Mass Cultural Council
