  4. Evening with the Author: Michael Tougias presents Above & Beyond

    June 28, 2018, 7:00 PM - 8:45 PM @ Whiton Room

The library is pleased to welcome Michael Tougias and his latest book, Above & Beyond: JFK and the U-2 Pilots During the Cuban Missile Crisis. He chronicles the 13 harrowing days of the crisis, focusing on the U-2 pilots who flew unarmed over Cuba to secure proof the Soviets were installing nuclear missiles. JFK secretly recorded every meeting during the crisis, and these transcripts - and recently declassified CIA documents - form the basis of this fascinating analysis of JFK’s decisions. Tougias actually interviewed the U-2 pilots, discovering insights that have remained undisclosed for 53 years. This unique presentation is a dramatic chronicling of the crisis, which is especially timely, given current tensions with North Korea and Russia. Tougias is the bestselling author of 7 award-winning books about extraordinary survivors and rescuers, and is a sought-after speaker on leadership and crisis management.
