  1. “The Story of World’s End – The Land, The People, The Heritage”

    August 10, 2017, 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM @ Whiton Room

Peter Marotta – The Trustees, Engagement Site Manager – Worlds End For thousands of years, World’s End has been shaped by the forces of nature and by the hands of man. The 251-acre reservation enjoyed today for its wide, tree-lined carriage paths, refreshing ocean breezes, and enduring open fields, is one of the most unique landscapes in Massachusetts and a cherished gem for the residents of Hingham and surrounding South Shore towns. From ancient glacial formations, to Native American and Colonial Era land use, and from a 19 th century farming estate, to developmental threats, and finally to its current state as a public reservation, World’s End endures as a testament to humankind’s deep and interwoven relationship with the land. Join us for an exploration into the story of World’s End as we discuss the varied natural features of the coastal peninsula and highlight several notable people whose influence on the land continues to shape our own experiences on the reservation today.
