  3. Composting with Master Urban Gardener, Janice McPhillips

    Whether you are growing vegetables, perennials, or ornamental shrubs and trees, the best way to have healthy plants is to start with healthy soil. And the best way to create healthy soil is to add compost! Making compost in your backyard allows you to recycle yard and leaf waste as well as food prep scraps into "black gold." Come learn the tricks of how to make compost in a backyard bin by adding the proper mix of "browns" and "greens." We will also include instructions for how to make an indoor worm composting bin for your garage or basement to handle food waste during the winter. This workshop will be presented Janice McPhillips who has over 30 years of experience as a backyard gardener, URI Master Composter, Master Urban Gardener and has been working at Holly Hill Farm in Cohasset as a Farm and School Garden Educator since 2008.

    This six-week program is arranged with the South Shore Community Action Council of MA. Space is limited and reservations are required. Registration can be for the series (beginning on Jul. 10) or for individual sessions: Jul. 10, Jul. 17, Jul. 24, Jul. 21, Aug. 07, Aug. 14. Reservations begin on Jun. 19.

  2. Harry Potter Birthday Celebration, 5+ with parent/caregiver

    Harry Potter Birthday Celebration: Harry Potter’s birthday is July 31 and the Hingham Library is celebrating with a birthday party. We will be reading the first chapter of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” at 1 PM followed by a craft and other fun activities and of course, Birthday Cake! Suitable for children ages 5+. This is a drop-in event.

  3. Monday Movie Night celebrates the magic of Steven Spielberg and his "PG" films

    The Children's department celebrates the magic of STEVEN SPIELBERG. All listed movies are rated PG. Children ages 9 and up are invited to this series. Bring a beach towel or blanket, snacks and covered drinks, and join us for Monday Movie Nights. Parents are welcome but not required for children ages 9 and up. Jul. 10 - "Jaws" (124 minutes), Jul. 17 - "E.T. The Extra Terrestrial" (115 minutes), Jul. 24 - "Hook" (145 minutes), Jul. 31 - "The Adventures of Tintin" (106 minutes), Aug. 07 - "Close Encounters of the Third Kind"(135 minutes), Aug. 14 - "The BFG" (117 minutes).
