    November 15, 2017, 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM @ Whiton Room

Beginner Lessons operate in a 12-week cycle. Participants will master chess basics, including how pieces move; maneuvering the board; applying chess terms such as castling; and the stages of play. All ages are welcome, but HCC recommends a minimum age of six years old, and the ability to work independently. All chess lessons at Hingham Public Library are free. To help offset the costs of funding the program, a suggested donation of $10 per lesson is gratefully accepted by Hingham Chess Club, yet not required. Through their partnership with the Hingham Public Library, HCC is also the recipient of a grant generously provided by the Harold and Avis Goldstein Trust.

    November 15, 2017, 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM @ Activity Room

What did Harry Potter know about magic? He was stuck living with the decidedly un-magical Dursleys, who hated him. He slept in a closet and ate their leftovers. But an owl messenger changes all that, with an invitation to attend the Hogwarts School for Wizards and Witches, where it turns out Harry is already famous. For students in 4th & 5th grade. Reservations are not required but they are appreciated for planning purposes. Please call the children's department at 781- 741-1405, ext. 1403 to register.
