  3. Memoir Writing

    Class participants will write pieces on a variety of subjects--childhood memories, stories about family members and friends, trips they've taken, historical events important in their lives, changes in culture they've observed over the years, every day activities and other true-life topics. Class will be led by Frank Mellen who has been teaching memoir writing at the Senior Center for more than five years and produced three anthologies of writers' favorite contributions, all of which are part of the library collection and available for check out. Most writing is completed outside of class and class members share and discuss their stories and encourage others. If you are interested in writing or have already begun doing so, we would love to have you join the group. The class will meet twice per month, April 10 & 24, May 15 & 22, and June 5 & 19. Registration required.

  3. Nature, Art, and Discovery Program: The Monarch Butterfly and Their Amazing Migration

    Children will learn about the exciting ways in which monarch butterflies migrate thousands of miles each year. The program will begin with a story about butterflies and their migration habits, and will feature a digital microscope to examine butterflies up close. Each child will then create their own butterfly using air-dry clay. Suitable for children ages 3 to 5.

    Our Read to a Dog program provides a supportive environment to practice reading! Reading to trained therapy dogs helps develop literacy skills and builds confidence and self-esteem. Our canine friends are all wonderful, patient listeners who are looking forward to reading with you!

    The program takes place each Saturday morning from 10:30-11:30. Reading sessions last 15 minutes and are for children ages 5 and up. Please reserve a spot by calling the Children's Department at 781-741-1405 ext. 1403.
