Gerry Johnston will perform a free solo guitar concert of jazz standards as part of the Boston Classical Guitar Society's Sunday Sounds Special concert series featured at the Hingham Library and sponsored by Coastal Heritage Bank.
Gerry Johnston is an accomplished musician who eschews stylistic barriers and includes music from a variety of musical genres in his performances. He is particularly known for his arrangements of standards from “The Great American Songbook.” He performs his arrangements of songs by popular and jazz composers such as George Gershwin, Duke Ellington, Dave Brubeck, Carole King, Burt Bacharach and others, on the classical guitar.
Mr. Johnston began studying guitar at age ten. After high school, he moved to Boston to study jazz at Berklee College of Music, and then classical guitar at the New England Conservatory, from which he graduated as a guitar performance major.
