  1. Read-to-a-Dog

    Our Read to a Dog program provides a supportive environment to practice reading! Reading to trained therapy dogs helps develop literacy skills and builds confidence and self-esteem. Our canine friends are all wonderful, patient listeners who are looking forward to reading with you!

    The program takes place each Saturday morning from 10:30-11:30. Reading sessions last 15 minutes and are for children ages 5 and up. Please reserve a spot by calling the Children's Department at 781-741-1405 ext. 1403.

  4. Book & Doh! - Let’s Get Creative, Ages 4 to 8

    This fun session will begin with a picture book titled “Fur, Feather, Fin: All of Us Are Kin” by Diane Land and illustrated by Stephanie Laberis. Named one of the Best Books of 2018, this wonderful informational book features various classes of animals. Their similarities and their differences are explained with the aid of simple rhymes and sophisticated art. Following the reading children are invited to mold playdoh into any of the animal shapes featured in the book.

    Sharpie DIY Dot Flower Pot Craft | This fun activity is for children ages 9+. Kids will be using Sharpie oil-based paint markers to decorate.   16. Parent/Child Book Group for 2nd & 3rd Graders: Winnie's Great War by Lindsay Mattick & Josh Greenhut

    Winnie's Great War is a heartwarming imagining of the real journey undertaken by the extraordinary bear who inspired Winnie-the-Pooh. From her early days with her mama in the Canadian forest, to her remarkable travels with the Veterinary Corps across the country and overseas, and all the way to the London Zoo where she met Christopher Robin Milne and inspired the creation of the world's most famous bear, Winnie is on a great war adventure. This is a parent/guardian and child book group for children in 2nd & 3rd grade. Library copies of the book will be available at the children's desk for participants about one month prior to the meeting date. Please read the selected book and reserve your place.

  21. Nature, Art and Discovery Program: Hoot! The Secret Life of Owls

    Children will learn about the incredible owls of our forests here in New England. Topics will include habitat requirements for our local birds, nesting and hunting habits, and how owl parents care for their young. Each child will create their very own owl of of clay.
