    Read to Luke! - Keep your reading skills sharp by reading to Luke, a gentle and charming Goldendoodle. He is a certified reading and therapy dog. Luke will be at the library on listed Saturdays.   3. Parent & Child Book Group for 2nd & 3rd grade: The Trouble with Chickens: A J.J. Tully Mystery

    "The Trouble with Chickens: A J. J. Tully Mystery" by Doreen Cronin, illustrated by Kevin Cornell | J.J. Tully is a former search-and-rescue dog who is trying to enjoy his retirement after years of performing daring missions saving lives. So he’s not terribly impressed when two chicks named Dirt and Sugar (who look like popcorn on legs) and their chicken mom show up demanding his help to find their missing siblings. Driven by the promise of a cheeseburger, J.J. begins to track down clues. Is Vince the Funnel hiding something? Are there dark forces at work—or is J.J. not smelling the evidence that’s right in front of him. This is a parent and child book group and reservations are needed.   7. Raising-A-Reader Program featuring Ryan from "Big Ryan's Tall Tales"

    Ryan Racette, creator of "Big Ryan's Tall Tales", invites parents and their children (3-5 years) to attend a 6-week literacy series on making stories where language comes alive. The dates are: Nov. 7, 14, 21 and Dec. 5, 12 and 19. Registration is preferred and begins on Oct. 23. This program is made possible by support from the South Shore Community Action Council.     Joe and Ravi might be from very different places, but they're both stuck in the same place: SCHOOL. Joe's lived in the same town all his life, and was doing just fine until his best friends moved away and left him on his own. Ravi's family just moved to America from India, and he's finding it pretty hard to figure out where he fits in. Joe and Ravi don't think they have anything in common -- but soon enough they have a common enemy (the biggest bully in their class) and a common mission: to take control of their lives over the course of a single crazy week.     BOOK & MOVIE: 3:30 PM Book Reading, “Jumanji” by Chris Van Allsburg: 4:00 PM Movie, “Jumanji” with Robin Williams, 105 minutes, PG, suggested ages 10+, *children 9 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Bring a blanket, a snack and a covered drink and join us to watch the original version of the movie Jumanji. This is a drop-in event When young Alan Parrish discovers a mysterious board game, he doesn't realize its unimaginable powers, until he is magically transported before the startled eyes of his friend, Sarah, into the untamed jungles of Jumanji! There he remains for 26 years until he is freed from the game's spell by two unsuspecting children.
