    Build-A-Book, ages 5+ Be the author and illustrator of your own book! In this DIY activity, children of all ages can use their natural creativity to invent a story or express themselves by telling a story about their own experiences. Child and parent/caregiver will work together to create a unique keepsake. We will provide the template and you will bring it alive with your cover art, words and illustrations. Run out of time…finish it at home. Option: Bring your finished book to the library for others to check out and read.

    The theme for the 2018 Summer Reading Program is Libraries Rock! With the theme in mind the Hingham Library has partnered with the South Shore Conservatory for a musical opening. Please join us. | 4:00 to 4:45 PM: Family Sing Along |Jana Kahn and Emily Browder Melville from South Shore Conservatory will lead a fun and interactive Sing Along for the whole family. | 4:45 to 5:15PM: Suzuki Instruction Demonstration | George Little and Daphne Manavopolous from South Shore Conservatory will provide an opportunity for children 4 years and up to learn about playing the guitar and violin. Suzuki method instruction is modeled on the way children learn language. Children will have an opportunity to hold and play the instruments if interested.

  14. Rhode Island Computer Museum Workshop: Make Your Own Video Game, ages 9 to 11, registration

    June 27, 2018, 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM @ Whiton Room

    MAKE YOUR OWN VIDEO GAME The Rhode Island Computer Museum will present a workshop called “Make Your Own Video Game”. This is a great chance to put down your controllers and take time to learn interactive software titled “Scratch” and create your own “video game” sample. The program will also include an exhibit on “Historic Video Games”. The exhibit aims to explain the impact of Early Video Games and then teach the MIT developed youth program “Scratch”. Scratch is a computer program developed to teach software coding and allows you can create your own “video game” sample. The workshop aims to explain how early video games were made and give students new skills to develop their own games. For ages 9 to 11.

    Stephanie Chase is an accomplished musician, singer, songwriter and entertainer. As MAMASTEPH she is a popular performer who has a vast and loyal audience throughout the South Shore. She has four cd’s to her credit. They are "Simply Mamasteph", "There's A Little Light", “Mamasteph: A Family Christmas Album" and her most recent “Little Mouse, Little House” released in 2017. Copies of her cd’s are available for checkout at the library. Suitable for young children and their grownups! Please join us for a magical musical morning.
