Tuesday, February 23, 2021
Students will learn the basics of play during this beginner series including how to set up the board, the rules of the game, understanding basic rule nuances such as castling, and the difference between checkmate and stalemate. Students will also begin to develop an understanding of fundamental chess principles and basic tactical ideas. This class is for elementary aged students as well as slightly older students who are interested in trying chess for the first time.
This program will be held via Zoom on Tuesday afternoons at 4:00 through the end of March. Registration for this week's session has closed.

Nolan DeMott is an experienced Chess player with over 12,000 games played on chess.com, having achieved a rating of 1900. Nolan started playing Chess at age 5 and started competing in tournaments soon after. In elementary school, he led his elementary school to a Top 4 finish at the Hurvitz Cup a regional team chess tournament, hosted by The Massachusetts Chess Association. While Nolan decided early on to not pursue playing the game at a more serious level, he's always found the time to play recreationally and teach those who are looking to improve their game.
