Virtual Evening with the Author: Martha Ackmann presents These Fevered Days

Thursday, June 11, 2020

Our latest Evening with the Author event features Martha Ackmann and her dazzling new Emily Dickinson biography, These Fevered Days: Ten Pivotal Moments in the Making of Emily Dickinson.

This meeting will be held via Zoom. Registration for this meeting has closed. If you had previously registered, you have been emailed the meeting information.

This is a reintroduction to Dickinson that, alongside the recent wave of pop culture portrayals of the poet, disrupts the ubiquitous image of Dickinson as timid, retiring, and entirely Victorian, revealing her instead as a radical creator with an extraordinary interior world. Ackmann unravels the mysteries of Dickinson’s life through ten decisive episodes that distill her evolution as a poet, following her through her religious crisis while a student at Mount Holyoke, her startling decision to ask a famous editor for advice, her anguished letters to an unidentified “Master,” and her terror in confronting possible blindness.

Martha Ackmann is a recipient of a Guggenheim fellowship, and lives in Western Massachusetts where she led a popular seminar on Dickinson at Mount Holyoke College.
