Evening With the Author: Michelle Marchetti Coughlin presents Penelope Winslow, Plymouth Colony First Lady
Thursday, September 17, 2020
Come to the library on Wednesday, April 29th to hear Michelle Marchetti Coughlin talk about her latest work. Penelope Pelham Winslow, a member of the English gentry who was married to Plymouth Colony Governor Josiah Winslow, was one of the most powerful women in Plymouth's history, but she, like most of her female contemporaries, has been largely forgotten. Coughlin pieces together Winslow’s life through her personal possessions, surviving homes, and archaeological artifacts to provide a rare glimpse into the world of Plymouth Colony's women.
Coughlin is the author of One Colonial Woman’s World: The Life and Writings of Mehetabel Chandler Coit, about the author of what may be the earliest surviving diary of an American woman. She recently guest-curated Pilgrim Hall Museum's exhibit, "pathFOUNDERS: Women of Plymouth," and currently serves on the board of the Abigail Adams Birthplace and as Museum Administrator of Boston's Gibson House Museum.
