  9. Evening with the Author: Chuck Collins and "Born on Third Base"

    January 25, 2017, 7:00 PM - 8:45 PM @ Whiton Room

Inequality has been grabbing headlines and driving deep divides between the haves and have nots in America. The wealthy wield advantage to keep the system operating in their favor, and those who find it difficult to keep up or get ahead lash out – waging a rhetorical war against the rich, letting anger and resentment keep us from new solutions. Born into the 1%, inequality expert and activist Chuck Collins gave away his inheritance at 26 and spent the next three decades mobilizing against inequality. He uses his perspective from both sides to deliver a new narrative. He explores the roots of advantage, and reveals how charity, used incorrectly, can actually reinforce inequality. Readers meet pioneers working together in new ways, including residents in Collins’ own Boston-area neighborhood who have launched some of the most interesting community transition efforts in the nation. Presented in partnership with Buttonwood Books & Toys in Cohasset.
